Art has always been a passion of mine, hand in hand with my love for fashion. It’s something that is instinctively in me. With such a busy schedule, it’s hard to set aside time to really dive into a project, but when I do, it’s so rewarding. Not going to lie, I LOVE spending a quiet Friday or Saturday night inside with some wine, movies and painting. There is something about it that is therapeutic for me. It’s the perfect stress reliever.
About a year ago, Rob and I started an Etsy shop called StringHeart. We create one of a kind nail art that comes in all shapes and sizes. It was a little scary taking something that was just a hobby of mine and turning it into a business, but it’s been such a fun ride with my best friend.
After we launched an Etsy shop for StringHeart, I’ve been getting better at “selling” and more importantly, at letting go. It hasn’t been easy to create art that is made for someone else. In fact, when our friend Martin (a talented photographer/videographer) formally bought a piece off our apartment wall during a party, I broke down crying right there in the living room! It was combination of joy, self-worth and appreciation. He hugged me and said “I remember when I sold my first piece. You deserve it Ali.” A couple days later, he hung it up in his apartment! It gave me so much confidence and motivation to keep going. Since then I’ve created several fun custom projects leading up to the New Year, and then we got busy with moving and I decided to take a break to focus on other forms of art i.e. painting, zentangles, interior decorating. But at the start of this month, I had an urge to start focusing more of my time on it. Since the 2015 NFL season started warming up, Rob remembered one of my favorite string art pieces from last year which happened to be a Dallas Cowboys logo that we made for a fan. I’m not a huge football lover, so this was a first for me, but it turned out pretty well!
To kick off the start of their season this past weekend, we re-shared this piece on our Facebook page and I am AMAZED at the reaction we received! Over 550 likes and 23 shares! I even got a few order requests for other custom pieces. I guess we need to get started on some more football logos, right?!
Do you have a favorite team? NFL, NBA, MLB? Maybe your college team? I’d love to create a one of a kind piece for you. Go to our Etsy shop and click “request custom order” or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you’re interested.
