I’ve mentioned it a few times here and there, but if you don’t know, I’m the Senior Buyer of Accessories and Jewelry at Forever 21. That means, my team and I are responsible for the styles you see, and buy, in stores and online. It feels weird to put that in writing on my blog every time… I don’t know why, I guess it’s always been something I’ve kept super separate from Worship Worthy. But lately, when I’ve met people or people have asked what I do, they’ve been surprised and have encouraged me to share it a little bit more, so here we are!
Most people think that being a Buyer means that I basically shop for a living. And to an extent, you’d be right. But there is also so much more that goes into it. My job is SO much fun, but it’s also a lot of hard work. Essentially I work on a daily basis with vendors that provide us products, and they own factories overseas to produce the goods. They send me samples, or I develop samples with them, we the decide which items we are going to buy and take into stores and from there I am involved with what colors to buy, how many units we need, what the retail price should be, etc. So as much as I am working creatively with accessories, I’m also deep into Excel sheets, financial reports and analyzing data.
My job is incredibly fun, and I’m so thankful to be where I am. I literally dreamed of being a Buyer in the fashion industry since I was 12… yes, 12. Coming to California to live my dream still feels surreal. It’s a lot of hard work, but I’m so grateful.
I thought it would be fun to share the styles that I have bought for F21, that you can get your hands on RIGHT NOW! I have to admit, it’s crazy to see these styles live, and real. Makes me so happy to see them making others happy- and proud.
It’s almost the middle of January (crazyyyy) and that means we have about a month or so more of sweater weather here in LA. Actually, it might not even be that long… I’m hearing we’re about to get a “heat wave” soon. Fingers crossed!
BUT for my friends who don’t live in LA or Miami, there is still a good chunk of winter weather ahead (sorry, but it’s true) which means you can still rock the CUTEST sweaters for a little longer! And even better news? There are so many sales happening on winter gear right now, you can score some really good finds!
So I thought it would be an appropriate time to round up some of my favorite sweaters of the moment! And not your average, boring, or basic sweaters- I’m talking FUN, statement making sweaters. That’s what we all really need. I’ve seen so many adorable options lately, they had to be shared.
One of my favorite trends right now is LEOPARD! Did you see how it just popped back up overnight? It’s like we woke up one day and all of a sudden, everything was leopard again. I for one am obsessed. Leopard or cheetah print to me is one of those tried and true fashion trends that never really left us, but it’s definitely back full force right now.
When I was younger, I think like 15 or 16, my absolutely favorite pair of shoes were these satin leopard wedges from Guess. They were peep toe, had a bow on top, and were the fucking CUTEST. I was literally obsessed with them for YEARS (still am…) but had to stop wearing them once the fabric started rubbing off on the back. Don’t you hate when that happens? I tried for years to find a replacement and had no luck. Nothing was as cute or as comfortable as those shoes. Ugh.
I loved them so much that I actually never got rid of them. I couldn’t wear them anymore but couldn’t bring myself to toss them. They are still at my parents house to this day, and my nieces wear them when they’re playing dress up. It’s pretty special to see them have gone full circle. Maybe one day I’ll have a daughter to wear them…
POINT IS, leopard is everywhere and it’s the shit. If you don’t have some leopard print in your closet, you better get to shoppin!
I’m not big into designer things, mainly because I can’t afford them but that’s beside the point… ha! I’ve always had the mindset about designer clothes and shoes that if I DID buy them, I’d be too worried about ruining them to actually USE them. You know what I mean? How shitty would it be to be wearing a nice pair of Louboutin shoes and they get spilled on or scuffed? I’d be SO sad to have spent a bunch of money and then have it be ruined.
BUT over the years, the one designer splurge that I think it’s reasonable to invest into is a good handbag. A good bag can last you YEARS if you take care of it right. And on the flip side, a cheap bag can last only a few months- the handles start to tear, the fabric can start to chip or whatever- it’s happened to all of us, right?
