Alexis Bittar is one of my all time favorite jewelry designers. His pieces are so inspiring; his designs are fresh and innovative. He uses materials like hand carved lucite, as well as semi precious stones; and his metal work is genius.
At the age of 22, in 1990, Alexis started his costume jewelry line by hand carving lucite out of his one bedroom apartment in New York City. He moved to Soho and started selling his one of a kind designs on the street corners. By 1992, he was discovered by Dawn Mello (Fashion Director of Bergdorf Goodman) and from there, had his first successes in retail.
I think his story is incredible. He had a dream, a creative vision, and he went for it. Working in his apartment, on his own, making one of a kind treasures in hopes of selling them. And look where it’s landed him! In 2014, he won Brand of the Year by the Accessories Council of Excellence.
These are some of my favorite pieces. But honestly, there are SO many more styles that I love, so take a peek at his website to see everything he has to offer.
I love both of these pieces. They can be paired with anything- a basic white t-shirt, or a sassy black dress.
Mr. Bittar used lucite for these pieces, hand painted black. I love that these almost look like a wood grain, due to the hand carving details.
