Time to talk about slowing things downnnnn…
Lately I’ve been feeling a little burnt out, a little delayed, and just a bit off. I’ve been struggling with the feelings of not being motivated to do anything at all, and simultaneously wanting to do EVERYTHING. It’s really split down the middle highs and lows. You know what I’m talking about, right? It’s like my blog, my business, ME IN GENERAL, are at a bit of a standstill. I’m not moving forward as fast as I want to be, simply because I’m making the wrong choices.
Los Angeles is great, and I love my life, but sometimes I feel like it’s too much. That it’s hard to disconnect sometimes because I find myself not being able to say no to things (anyone else?) when I should be focusing on other things. There is plenty of work to be done, but it’s gorgeous outside and I’d rather go to the beach. Or go to happy hour with my friends, when I should stay in and finish a blog post. I don’t want to miss out! So I’ve been making the wrong choices, and regretting them later.
I decided to come back to Minnesota to visit my family and to make some time for myself. Selfishly, it’s what I need. To unplug and relax. It’s easier to slow down for me while I’m here. Whatever may be the reason (being around family, things are quieter here, etc), it’s just easier.
Do you have a place like that? A place that makes you just feel calm?
While I’m back, I’ve decided to purposefully take this time to get things done that I’ve been putting off. To force myself to slow down, to look IN instead of out. It’s time to get organized, and to recharge.
I’m stepping back and taking an objective look at what I’m doing. Am I fulfilled? Are there things that I’m doing that I’m forcing? Where is my energy best spent. I can’t be everything to everyone, and my business can’t be successful if it’s all over the place. This all got me thinking that I can’t be the only one who’s needing a break, right?
It seems like the perfect time to share some tips I’ve found in case you’re feeling in a slump too!
Tips that help me to slow down and take a breath:
- You will never be everything to everyone, so stop trying. You can’t please everyone. You can’t be in two places at once. All you can do is focus on what makes YOU truly happy, and do that. In this article, one piece of advice is “if it’s not a heck yeah, say no”. I love that! Just say yes to the things that are most important, and give yourself the ability to say no to the things that don’t fall into that category.
- Give yourself time to breathe and slow down. And do it purposefully. Take a walk by yourself with the intention of turning inward and listening to your heart and your gut. Meditate, do some yoga, whatever would be helpful for you!
- Don’t be afraid to be selfish when you need YOU time. The people around you that love and care about you will support you in the times you need a break and disconnect. They’ll help you get there. Rob’s been encouraging me to get out and do things alone, to turn off the noise. I feel so much more at ease taking time for myself while knowing he’s got my back 100%.
- Appreciate what you’ve got. Taking a step back from your everyday to simply just appreciate where you’re at, what you’re doing and how far you’ve really come. Patting yourself on the back once in a while can be SO helpful to get yourself back into a happier, more productive mindset.
Let’s talk my outfit:
I got this sweater on SheIn last year, and I love it! It’s super soft, and is a color I don’t normally go for. I think the bell sleeve is such a cute touch, too. I’ve linked my exact sweater, but it’s sold out, so I found some similar options below that are SO CUTE (and affordable…yay)!
I’ve also been really into this hat lately! I typically like a traditional wide brim fedora, but this was a find while I was at bebe and I pulled the trigger and started actually wearing it. I will say, I don’t feel like it really goes with every outfit (at least on me – other girls pull off wearing hats like this with everything) but it’s been perfect for this transitional summer to fall weather we’ve been having in LA. I’ve linked some really cute, affordable options below! How cute is the olive green one? LOVE!
